Safeguarding at East Sheen
Our safeguarding policy covers a broad range of areas, including child protection, online safety, site security, health and safety, evacuation procedures, lockdown protocols, anti-bullying, radicalisation, racism, and female genital mutilation, among others. Our full safeguarding policy is available on our website.
Training and Support
All staff members receive annual safeguarding training and regular updates to ensure that they are equipped with the latest knowledge and understanding. Additionally, we ensure that all contracted staff (such as cleaners, school meal providers, sports coaches, and supply teachers) undergo thorough police checks and are legally entitled to work in the UK. All adults working directly with children also receive appropriate safeguarding training.
We collaborate with a range of professionals and agencies, including social workers, health professionals, and the police, to ensure that children and families receive the necessary support.
Health and Safety
Our commitment to health and safety includes the training of fire marshals, regular fire drills, and tests of our equipment and alarm systems. Some staff members are trained in the use of fire extinguishers, and we have several staff members trained in First Aid. Additionally, all relevant staff receive annual training on the use of EPINEPHrine (epi pens) for students with severe allergies.
Safer Recruitment
Harry Page, Polly Jones, and Jan Regan hold the Safer Recruitment qualification, as do some members of the governing body. We follow safe recruitment practices throughout the hiring process, ensuring that all staff members are appropriately vetted before appointment.
Site Security
Our school is equipped with electronic sign-in systems and locking mechanisms that help control access to the building, ensuring that the site remains secure at all times.
Governor's Oversight
We have designated governors who are responsible for safeguarding and health and safety. They conduct annual safeguarding audits, attend relevant training, and ensure that the school remains compliant with our policies. The safeguarding governors are also part of the Children, Families, and Community Committee, which meets regularly. Their photographs are displayed in the office and dining areas for easy reference.
Our Health and Safety Governor regularly participates in health and safety walks, ensuring the school is compliant with all relevant policies and procedures.
