ESPS Governing Body

What is the Governing Body?

The governing body comprises parent and staff representatives, together with local authority members and co-opted governors from the local community. We are all individuals who are passionate about working together in support of ESPS.

The Governing Board has three core functions:

  1. Establish the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school
  2. To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and it’s pupils and the performance management of staff
  3. Oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure that resources are used effectively

In essence we are the “critical friend” of the school. We ask a lot of questions with the goal of fulfilling our core functions and statutory duties.  The end result we strive for is a happy, safe and stimulating environment which promotes a high level of learning and supports the children’s well-being.

Minutes of all meetings are held centrally; if you are interested in seeing any meeting minutes please contact the Clerk to the Governors via clerktogovernors@eastsheen.richmond.sch.uk.

How does the Governing Body Operate?

The Governing Body conducts the majority of its work through committee. Details of the three central committees and their remits can be found at the bottom of this page:

Resources Committee

               Teaching and Learning Committee

                Children, Families and Community Committee

Various sub-committees exist within this framework, each with a more specific focus. Working groups can be formed outside this framework to tackle issues as they arise, allowing the board to draw on the broad range of expertise within its ranks.

The full governing board meets around 5 times a year, as does each committee.  There are many and varied activities undertaken by board members ranging from  catch-ups between the Chairs and Headteacher, to focussed learning walks around the school, to developing surveys and analysing data, to working and training with the local authority’s children’s service provider, to preparing, reviewing and authorising accounts. In fact there are simply too many activities to detail here.

If you feel that you have a specific skill set or expertise that may be of use to the Governing Board and would like to get involved, or if you would like to get in touch for any other reason, please do contact the Clerk to the Governors via clerktogovernors@eastsheen.richmond.sch.uk
